President Raisi of Iran died in a helicopter accident

According to official media, the bodies of the occupants were discovered on Monday morning, a few hours after their chopper crashed in northwest Iran. The incident puts Iran's top leadership under strain at a time when regional and international tensions over the Gaza War are at an all-time high.
Tehran now confronts further uncertainty in the wake of the unexpected death of Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi in a helicopter crash .

Hardliner and longtime contender to succeed Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi, died in a helicopter crash in rugged terrain close to the border with Azerbaijan, on Monday, 20 may 2024  according to officials and official media. 
  
After a blizzard-caused overnight search, the burned wreckage of the helicopter carrying Raisi, Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian, and six other passengers and staff was located early on Monday. The chopper crashed on Sunday.19 may 2024 .It's too sorrowful news for Iranian people .

Separate photos from IRNA showed Red Crescent personnel carrying a shrouded body on a stretcher, while footage from Iranian state television showed wreckage strewn across a misted mountainside. A senior Iranian official had earlier informed Reuters that everyone on board the helicopter had died.


After Amirabdollahian passed away, Deputy Foreign Minister Ali Bagheri Kani was named acting Foreign Minister, according to IRNA.

Nine persons in all were on board the flight, the Tasnim news agency reported. Three helicopters were part of Raisi's convoy; the other two, according to the news agency, "reached their destination safely."

Rescuers from the Iranian Red Crescent raced through deep fog, blizzards, and steep terrain to reach the crash site in East Azerbaijan province. When they discovered the wreckage, they claimed "no sign of life".
 


Earlier on Monday, Turkish authorities released drone images of what seemed to be a fire in the woods that they "suspected to be the wreckage of a helicopter". The fire was located on the side of a rocky mountain around 20 kilometres (12 miles) south of the Azerbaijan-Iranian border, according to the location in the clip.

The fall occurs during a period of rising opposition in Iran over a variety of political, social, and economic concerns. Iran's clerical leadership are under international pressure over Tehran's disputed nuclear programme and its growing military connections with Russia during the conflict in Ukraine.

Pakistan mourns the loss of a valued friend.
President Asif Ali Zardari "expressed profound shock and sorrow over the tragic death" of his Iranian counterpart.
According to a statement issued by the president's office, Zardari "emphasised that the Islamic World has lost a remarkable leader who always supported the Muslim cause and deeply felt the sufferings of Muslims globally, particularly the Palestinian and Kashmiri people".

"Today, Pakistan mourns the passing of a dear friend. We had the privilege of hosting him in Pakistan last month. "During our discussions, I found him very interested in strengthening our bilateral relations," President Zardari stated, referring to Raisi's visit to Pakistan last month.


Highlighting that the Iranian president "always had a special spot for Pakistan and its people", Zardari said Raisi will be "dearly regretted and affectionately remembered in Iran, Pakistan, and the Islamic World for his efforts to develop relations with regional countries and Islamic nations".
