NA suspends Tariq Bashir Cheema of the PML-N for the current session due to his insults directed against Zartaj Gul of the PTI.
Tariq Bashir Cheema, a lawmaker for the PML-Q, was suspended by the National Assembly on Friday due to his alleged derogatory remarks directed at Zartaj Gul Wazir of the PTI.
On Thursday, Cheema was giving a statement in the legislature when Gul stopped, teasing that he ought to be talking about the Bahawalpur University case instead, in which Cheema's son was a suspect.
Following his discussion with Ali Muhammad Khan of the PTI, Gul made a comment that apparently infuriated Cheema. He then proceeded to Gul's seat and was observed whispering something in her ear.
PTI-SIC members were spotted swarming towards the Treasury benches; some of them even ran across them in an attempt to assault Cheema, who was being led out by Treasury MNAs. Opposition members gathered in front of the speaker's dais as soon as Mr. Cheema got back to his seat and mounted a loud protest, claiming that he had used extremely offensive and abusive language and calling for action against him.
Subsequently, PTI MPs proceeded to the speaker's office and asked that Cheema's membership be suspended. Dawn was informed by reliable sources that Cheema, who later apologised to Gul "unconditionally," had been called by NA Speaker Ayaz Sadiq.
PTI members, including party chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, acknowledged the development in interviews with the media, saying that Gul had accepted the apology. Gohar, however, announced that they would file a move on Friday to suspend Cheema for the balance of the current term.
"Everyone informed me that, as Cheema had arrived, You ought to move on from the situation," she informed the press.
"An unfortunate incident took place between Tariq Cheema and Zartaj Gul during Thursday's sitting," NA Speaker Ayaz Sadiq stated in a resolution to suspend a Cheema for the balance of the session.
The motion claims that Cheema broke Rule 30 of the National Assembly's 2007 Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business, which prohibits members from "eroding" the "sanctity" or "dignity" of the chamber.
Rule 21 of the same legislation, which grants the speaker the authority to suspend members who violate the rules "if he deems it necessary," is how the speaker named him.
By doing so, he undermined the house's sanctity and disregarded the chair's authority. ... deliberately disrupting the procedures, violating the regulations, he continued.
The motion was passed by the majority of the present MNAs who supported the suspension.
Speaker Sadiq thanked the members for their participation yesterday and pledged to maintain the house in order.
Following yesterday's "upsetting incident," Gul took to X to express gratitude to parliament for excluding Cheema from today's sitting.
"A very distressing incident occurred in the National Assembly yesterday." She further stated in her tweet that Speaker Ayaz Sadiq had prevented Cheema from entering the House. She wrote, "Thank you, Pakistani Parliament."
