Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar Attends 15th OIC Summit and OIC Council of Foreign Ministers’ Meeting

Islamabad, Pakistan - Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar is currently in Banjul, the Gambia, where he is attending the 15th OIC Summit and the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers’ Meeting preceding the Summit. The Summit, which is being held from May 1-3, 2024, brings together leaders and foreign ministers from member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to discuss key issues affecting the Muslim world.


The 15th OIC Summit is being held under the theme "Unity and Solidarity for Justice and Development" and is expected to focus on a range of issues, including the Palestinian cause, the situation in Afghanistan, and the challenges posed by terrorism and extremism. The Summit will also discuss ways to promote economic cooperation and development among OIC member states.


During his visit, Foreign Minister Dar is expected to meet with his counterparts from other OIC member states, as well as with the Secretary-General of the OIC, to discuss bilateral and regional issues. He will also address the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers’ Meeting, where he will highlight Pakistan's perspective on key regional and global issues.


Pakistan has been an active member of the OIC since its inception in 1969 and has played a key role in promoting the organization's objectives, which include promoting Islamic solidarity, promoting economic and social development, and protecting the rights and interests of Muslim communities around the world.


The OIC Summit is an important platform for Pakistan to engage with other Muslim-majority countries and to promote its foreign policy priorities. Pakistan's participation in the Summit is expected to further strengthen its relations with other OIC member states and to promote regional peace and stability.


In his address to the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers’ Meeting, Foreign Minister Dar emphasized the need for Muslim countries to work together to address the challenges facing the Muslim world. He highlighted the importance of promoting economic cooperation and development, and of working together to combat terrorism and extremism.


Foreign Minister Dar also met with his counterparts from other OIC member states, including the Foreign Minister of Turkey, Mevlut Cavusoglu, and the Foreign Minister of Saudi Arabia, Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud. During these meetings, he discussed bilateral relations and regional issues, and emphasized the need for greater cooperation and coordination among OIC member states.
